samba in Cambridge research report

Both groups have a sense of Band identity because-’Arco Iris Samba’ all wear colourful jumpers and Thudbox all wear smart, but casual, clothes. Also they are always in time with each other and all work and perform as a group .

Both Arco iris and Thudbox’s members interact with one another by listening to each other .Also Arco Iris have a conductor to make sure everyone knows who’s meant to be playing, and keeping the rhythm.

They encourage their audiance to be in the performance by; enjoying themselves , playing a catchy rhythm , by getting the audiance to clap to the beat.

Both groups are in a line so all the players can be seen by the audiance. The people with the same intruments as each other stand next , near, to each other.

Lighting is only used in one of the performances , Thudbox Bal A. Blue lights are on the drums to make them stand out fro mthe group. There is always a white light on the person playing on the xylophone-type-intrument which makes her stand out -Probably because she is keeping the beat .
Also the lights change colour on the performers- sometimes orange, sometimes blue-neon light and normal lighting.

The two performances are in different places, on the street and on a stage. But choreography and performance is basically the same .

Samba

  • The performance-the video is of a Samba Carnival , i think its really interesting and entertaining. Before we started looking at Samba on the course, i hardly knew anything about it.
  • costumes-mostly yellow and blue. The girls are dressed in yellow, gold, and blue , Which makes the carnival courful .
  • where is it-Rio de Janeiro, brazil. At the Mulatas Samba carnival 2009
  • Own experiance at the Junction- I think Samba is a fun, uplifting type of music. With Samba instruments you can play any rhythm- at The Junction we tried Drum and Bass and it it sounded really good .
  • street festivals are very common during carnival and are highly populated by the locals
  • samba is a type of music played mostly in brazil , brought over by the slaves
  • Samba music is also based on percussion instruments

campaign

My campaign follow-up

So far for my campaign i have managed to get signatures/people to join Facebook...
  • 29 on Facebook
  • 12 to sign the petition
On Facebook I have been asking my friends to join my group , and talking about my campaign .Only 29 people have joined , even though i invited everyone on my Facebook friends list , 81 people . I would of liked more people to join.

I got a group of people to sign my petition , 12, and i thought it was enough, but now when i look at it , it doesn't look like very much.I could have gone round college and got more petitions.

I am planning on sending my petition , or mentioning my campaign to the College.I think the best person to ask is heather chambers because she could take the campaign further if she agreed with it .

campaign day

how did your plan change?

I didn't really have much of a plan. I was going to give out leaflets, put up a poster, go to the refectory...But i didn't do any of those things.
Instead i
  • did a petition
  • made and gave out hot chocolate
  • my locations were outside the hall and in the staff kitchen-to make the hot chocolate
was it successful?

I think it was, because I gave out hot chocolate, i got as much signatures as i could, it took me hardly any time to do it . Lots of people thought my campaign was a great idea and asked if i could actually take it further.I took lots of pictures that show me carying out my campaign.

what would i do differently?

could have taken the petition round the college to get more signatures, the rest of it went well.

my plan next week

send off my petition and get more people to sign my petition.

I'm planning to either send my petition to the college, or the council, because my campaign is mostly college based. Also try and get more people to sign my petition,so i have more evidence of people supporting my campaign, and it would take more effect.

My campaign-Free hot chocolate

'Free hot chocolate'
>> \/Pictures below\/<<

  • First I went to a group of people out side the hall, and asked if they would like a free hot chocolate, or course they answered " yeah!"
  • second i went to the staff kitchen and made the hot chocolate.
  • Thirdly i brang the hot chocolate back upstairs
  • Everyone lined up to get a hot chocolate
  • I stood next to the hot chocolate with the petition in my hand
  • One by one people signed the petition and got a free hot chocolate
  • Their feedback was that they wanted this to happen in college, and the hot chocolate tasted really good!
  • When I was giving out free hot chocolate and getting signatures Steve took pictures for evidence.
  • I came back to the classroom and took the pictures off the camera, and put them on flickr
